Forward Webinar Series
With hockey being put on pause for the next while, Jets Hockey Development has taken their programming virtual. This is a great opportunity for players to continue to learn the importance of understanding the game and where they can apply topics to their own game. Even though practices and games have been paused, this does not mean you cannot improve as a player.
Forming Good Habits for Forwards
Session 1 (JAN 14 6:30-7:30 pm) – Everyday Skills, Individual Skills
This session will cover the importance of everyday skills that are very important for being a good teammate and player. We will also cover the importance of individual skill in the forward position and work to expand our existing skills. Forwards need to be able to push the pace when it comes to skating as they generate the majority of the offence for their team. They also need to be able to handle the puck in tight areas, as well as pass and shoot with confidence.
Session 2 (JAN 21 – 6:30-7:30 pm) – Supporting the Puck
This session will cover the importance of supporting the puck as a forward in all 3 zones (defensive zone, neutral zone, offensive zone). Good forwards want the puck on their stick but recognize they need to move and become an option to help advance the puck. We will go over different types of support in different scenarios (breaking out, neutral zone regroups, offensive zone attacks, etc.)
Session 3 (JAN 28 – 6:30-7:30 pm) – Skills in the Position
This session will look at the skills necessary for a forward to take their game to the next level. These skills are constantly evolving, players need to continue learning and working towards developing them. As much as possible. We will go over such topics as puck protection, net front presence, tracking rebounds, deflections and rims.
